Sonoma Wine Tours for Couples
Sonoma wine tours compared for couples: a private day for two with a local wine expert, a small-group winery tour with a picnic, or the open-air wine trolley. Prices checked October 2026.
Sonoma is Napa’s neighbour to the west, about an hour north of San Francisco, and it is where many couples end up when they want the same wine country with a slower pace. The tours below all start in Sonoma Valley or include it. They split into three kinds of day, and for two people the choice is mostly about privacy and how much you want to plan.

The private day
Curated Winery Tours’ private Napa and Sonoma wine tour is the closest thing in Sonoma to the private Napa day this site is built around. You fill in a short questionnaire, the host books the wineries, and the day runs about seven hours with pickup, a picnic lunch and wine education included. Tasting fees are extra: the host says they range from nothing to $150 a person depending on the winery, gives you the cost before booking, and passes on discounts. It has only six reviews so far, all five stars, which is a small sample; if you would rather book a private tour with a longer record, the private Napa tour on our homepage has a near-perfect rating from many more couples.
The small-group and trolley days
Platypus Tours’ Sonoma Valley Guided Winery Tour costs $148 each and picks you up at your accommodation in Sonoma, Glen Ellen, Kenwood or the city of Napa, with a boxed picnic and a guide for about seven hours. The Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley ($145) visits three Sonoma wineries in an open-air cable car with a box lunch. On both, the tasting fees are not included, so budget for them at each winery; the tasting fees guide explains how they work in Napa, and the same logic applies next door.
Coming from San Francisco
If you are staying in the city, a full-day coach tour covers both valleys in one go. Extranomical Tours’ Muir Woods, Napa and Sonoma Full-Day Wine Tour ($179, 4.7 from 1,353 reviews) adds an hour in the redwoods and three tastings, in about ten hours with hotel pickup; the $15 Muir Woods entry is extra. It is a big-group day, so it suits couples who want ease over privacy.
Napa or Sonoma for a couple?
Pick Napa if you want the famous names and a polished, private day; pick Sonoma if you prefer smaller wineries, picnics and a slower rhythm. Plenty of couples do both on one private day, which is what the tour above is set up for.
